🏛 Latin Quotes on Law

You may have heard a lot about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s trial lately. After Depp’s win, I’ve seen a few commentators mention a Latin phrase used in law, as to why they believed Amber Heard lost her case. Let’s take a look at it.

Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus.

It means “false in one thing, false in everything.” This phrase has been quoted by some lawyers in this context because Amber Heard allegedly lied on few occasions, and so it is used to discredit all her other testimonies.

Whether Amber Heard has lied or not, understandably this concept of “falsus in uno~” has been criticized as being inaccurate.

Another interesting law-related Latin saying:

Dura lex, sed lex.”

It translates to “the law is hard, but it’s the law” meaning that even when the law is harsh or unfair, it is still the law. Very Roman way of thinking indeed!
