In February, I posted that one of my favorite French music bands, Therapie Taxi, is splitting up this fall. They are currently touring for the last time and have just released their last album, “C’était Therapie TAXI pour vous servir” (= It was Therapie TAXI to serve you), a recording of their live show at the Olympia stadium in Paris. You can hear it here on Spotify.
Today, I have more sad news for French music fans: the electro-pop duo, The Pirouettes, a real life couple who composed and sang together, have also broke up! I was afraid of this happening since all the lyrics of their songs in their last album, “Equilibre” are quite dark and filled with sadness. It was obvious something was happening behind the scenes. As a fan, I was hoping that they were just going through a rough patch since they were still singing together about the love they had for each other. However, they just announced in an interview that indeed it is over. They will be touring in France in a few weeks, most likely for the last time.
On the positive side, they did leave us many musical gems, so let’s listen to their songs for now.
Here is an except of some of the lyrics that made me wonder if something might be going on. As they say in French, “ça m’a mis la puce à l’oreille” (“it put a flea in my ear” = it gave me a hint.)
The Pirouettes style is very easy to listen to as they sing slowly, articulate well, and their lyrics are straight-forward and easy to understand. If you like their music, I suggest listening to their songs as a great way to practice your French. You can find The Pirouettes’ Spotify here.
Pardonne-moi, j’aurais essayé
Réveil en larmes, mauvais rêve,
Rappel d’alarme, je me lève, mais
Tu n’es plus là
Oh pardonne-moi.
Eh, solo, sous la couverture,
Marques de posters sur les murs
Tes affaires sont dans la voiture,
Oh, pardonne-moi”
Translation:
“Still a little bit of love”
Forgive me, I would have tried,
Wake-up in tears, bad dream,
Alarm’s reminder, I get up, but
You are not here anymore
O forgive me
Solo, under the blanket,
Traces of posters on the wall,
Your stuff are in the car,
O forgive me”
