花曇り - Hanagumori
🇺🇸 ENGLISH
It means “Overcast weather during the cherry blossom time.” It’s not just any overcast weather (which is 曇り kumori), it’s specifically during the cherry blossoms. In Japanese we have so many precise terms, and that’s what makes it so beautiful and deep. Also since ancient times, Japanese people have been very sensitive to seasons and nature, which reflects in the language. The cherry blossom has always been an inspiration to tanka and haiku for their ephemeral beauty as they disappear only 1-2 weeks just after they have blossomed. If you are interested in them, check out the poems in the 古今和歌集 (Kokin wakashu) a poem anthology from around the 10th century.

C’est un terme pour désigner le « temps couvert durant la saison des Sakura ». Les mots japonais sont en général très précis, on a plein de mots désignant une particularité, et c’est là toute sa beauté. D’ailleurs si vous avez habité au Japon, vs saurez tout de suite de quoi on parle. La blancheur du ciel et des Sakura créent cette ambiance un peu irréelle. Et c’est justement une autre caractéristique du japonais, nous sommes très sensibles aux saisons et au temps, ainsi qu’à la nature, ce qui se reflete dans la langue.

Interesting article in French about the « poète maudit » of the 19th century, Arthur Rimbaud. There was a petition to make him enter into the Pantheon next to Paul Verlaine, another legendary poet and former lover. However on the request of his family, Macron decided not to. Rimbaud is one of the most talented poets of France, and many of his admirers, including minister of culture Roselyne Bachelot, advocated this honor be given to him, for their work that are indissociable. However, as a couple their shared life was short and early in Rimbaud’s life. After Verlaine stabbed Rimbaud, the pair went their separate ways, and Rimbaud left France and literature in his early 20’s. So his family felt this association was not relevant, and preferred it not attributed in this manner. And you — what do you think?

Article intéressant sur le poète maudit du 19ème siècle Arthur Rimbaud. Beaucoup de ses admirateurs souhaitaient qu’il entre au Panthéon aux côtés de son ancien amant Paul Verlaine, mais Macron en a décidé autrement, respectant le souhait de la famille.
Il est vrai que Rimbaud et Verlaine n’ont pas été amants pendant très longtemps, et que leur histoire ne s’était pas exactement bien terminée: pour rappel, Verlaine avait poignardé Rimbaud… De plus, ce dernier a quitté la littérature et la France très jeune, et n’a plus fréquenté son ancien amant jusqu’à sa mort. Donc en effet, ça peut se comprendre que ses descendants ne soient pas vraiment enthousiastes à l’idée de sacraliser ce couple maudit et éphémère, malgré la pétition de nombreux fans. Et vous, qu’en pensez-vous ?
